Dani Jo Solberg passed away peacefully on May 2nd, 2012 surrounded by her family after a very brave and courageous two-year battle against cancer in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 27.

Dani was born on November 4th, 1984 in Bellevue, Washington and grew up in Mount Vernon, Washington.  She attended Mount Vernon High School and after graduating in 2003, she attended Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington just like her older brothers had.

Her biggest passion in life was her family.  She absolutely adored all children, especially her three nephews and she got the biggest kick out of spoiling them as much as possible.  In her spare time, Dani loved playing games with her friends and family.

She spent the majority of her short professional career working with senior citizens as an Insurance Agent and most recently was instrumental in developing the Client Services Center for her family’s business in San Antonio, Texas.

She left this world way too young, but she leaves behind many fond memories that will always be cherished and never forgotten.  She leaves behind her parents Daniel and Debra Solberg of Spring Branch, Texas; her brother Robert and his wife Maria along with their sons Giovanni and Bryce of Spring Branch, Texas; her brother Russell and his wife Melissa along with their son Owen of Vancouver, Washington; maternal grandmother Nancy Sturdevant of Napavine, Washington; paternal grandmother Pat Solberg of Gig Harbor, Washington; her Yorkshire Terrier Buffy; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Dale Sturdevant; her paternal grandfather Marvin Solberg, her paternal grandmother Norma Lee Holm, and her cousin Brandon Sturdevant.

Dani was blessed to have the love and support of not only her family but also numerous close friends who were a constant source of encouragement and motivation.  A special thank you to Taylor Sturdevant for the unconditional love and unwavering support you provided to Dani.

The family will be celebrating Dani’s life on Saturday May 12th, 2012. For specific information on the service, please call (210) 236-4863.

Dani, you were such an inspiration and so so brave. Nat and I are always going to remember how sweet it was that you drove all the way up to dallas to go out dancing the night away with us. I cant believe you made me dance with that random guy… and so glad you did cause Jason and Justin are pretty awesome people and I know they love and miss you loads as well 🙂 You always encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone and to live, laugh and love to the fullest. I will always be thankful for the years we spent together. No one can ever take your place. Love you. – Brittany

We lived across from eachother at PLU in 2003-2004. You were a lovely neighbor and person. Your room was the first one on the left in our hallway and your door was always open and you were alwyas there with a smile and a hello. You really helped to make that floor fell like home. I am so sorry to learn of your cancer and your passing. We have now lost 2 people from that floor, you and Brian Bradshaw. You were both so kind and caring and taken from the world too soon.

  5. Shannon DeLozier on the May 5, 2012 remarked #

So sorry to hear of the passing of Dani. I also just loss my sister to Clear Cell Sarcoma on April 30th at age 41 (Shelly Neff). My brother-in-Law heard the news as we were planning our services through the small group of CCS individuals which stay in contact with each other. Unfortunately that list continues to fade. Thinking of your family through this difficult time.

Dan and Debbi, I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Dani. I love her and loved talking to her and working with her, she always had a laugh and a smile to share with everyone. All of you are in my prayers.

Dani – You were the best sister a brother could ask for. I know that we had our challenges at times like all brothers and sisters, but I loved you so much. You were also the best aunt that any nephew or niece could ask for. You’ll never be forgotten. Tell grandpa hi for me!

  8. Maureen McCabe on the May 8, 2012 remarked #

When I first met Dani, she had already been battling the CCS for a year or more. What was so amazing about her was the determination and good cheer that she demonstrated during what must have been the most difficult chapter in her young life. May the entire Solberg family find peace in the love and memories of Dani who did indeed did leave them way too young!

Dan, Debbi, Rob and Russ – I am so sorry for your loss. Dani always seemed to so – on top of the world. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to spend much time working with her. One of my fondest memories of Dani was that she would occasionally shoot me an IM, early in the morning, during the AEP and remind me to have a Great Day and to make the most of it. She will be missed. What a wonderful person!

Dani was very special to me. She was fun and put on the best face possible through all of her trials. I respected her immensely. I have many memories but the one that stands out was our trip to the perfume counter. WOW, we tried everything! I don’t think I could smell for the rest of the day. Dani, I will miss you so much. Heaven is lucky to have you.

I feel blessed to have shared friendship and many years working alongside Dani. She had such a deep passion for whatever she pursued. I miss her already..

I wish I could be as strong as this young woman was in even the simplest areas of my life. As a kid I had heros like Superman, and Batman. Capes, maskes, fighting crime and all that…. But because of this young womans strength, love and wonderful spirit, I think I am starting to realize the true meaning of the word,…Hero. Dani, you will be missed, loved, and never forgotten.

  13. Marsha Neal on the May 8, 2012 remarked #

Debbie, Dan, Rob, Russ and her extended family my prayers are with all of you at this time. Dani had an uncanny knack of seeing everything going on in the lives of those around her. At those times her kind words could change your day. The world needs more kind souls like her. God must have needed another Angel. She will be truly missed.

Dani and I exchanged e-mails in 2009, regarding my Medicare Insurance. Needless to say, I was very impressed with her knowledge and promptness. When I finally got to meet her face to face, I was really surprised at how young she was! AND how nice she was! I ended up bringing in a friend who also signed up for insurance. In October 2010, I received a form letter from Dani talking about her diagnosis of cancer. What a shock! She was so young……..I have been following her story on Butterfly Times. All the ups and downs……it just doesn’t seem fair that she had to go thru all the pain…..mental and physical……now Dani can rest in peace……I will only be one of many that will miss her and have such good thoughts of her. Condolances to all her family and friends

When we lose someone we love, it seems that time stands still. What moves through us is a silence, a quiet sadness, a longing for one more day, one more word, one more touch. We may not understand why you left this earth so soon, or why you left before we were ready to say good-bye, but little by little, we begin to remember not just that you passed, but that you lived. And that your life gave us memories too beautiful to forget. Your so brave for fighting the battle that was at hand. I am truly honored I have the right to call you a friend. You were so positive.. and that was a trait that was very easy to admire. I hope your at peace and out of pain. I will miss your quirky sense of humor, intelligence and especially your kind heart. Until we meet again, I will miss you.. Love you Dani. RIP.

A quote I found seemed perfect:

God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be. So He put His arms around you and whispered “Come to Me.” With tearful eyes we watched you, and saw you pass away. Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hardworking hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best.

  16. Jaime W on the May 10, 2012 remarked #

So many prayers to your family dani. I never met you, but had one of my best friends die in October from the same cancer. I promise to keep talking about this horrible disease and reach out to those affected in support. May God comfort those left behind as you join Him in heaven.

  17. Taylor Sturdevant on the May 10, 2012 remarked #

The quote ” you never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have “. I think this totally fits you. You were honestly the strongest and most amazing person I know. Me and you had a bond that nobody will ever really understand. I am thankful that we became so close because we you needed some to talk to we were always here for each other and I can’t picture my life without me and you becoming so close. You are my inspiration and my hero <3.
    R.I.P. Dani <3

I really don’t know who I’m sending this to, but after finding all the balloons and really special notes on our property in Colorado County, TX today May 13, 2012, I felt that I had to. So very touching. For some reason, God has brought Dani Solberg into our lives. She was very special to many that shared their love for her in each note. We share your loss. Carl and Laurel

  20. Russell Solberg on the May 14, 2012 remarked #

Carl & Laurel – wow. Thank you for letting us know those were found. It appears they flew about 100 miles from Canyon Lake.

  21. Carl on the May 14, 2012 remarked #

Russell, when were the balloons released? I have the notes if you want them. I am glad that one note had a link to this blog or we would not have known who sent them!! That is something that they flew 100 miles!!!
